Program flea products are a mild and effective way of dealing with fleas. They may be used with other pet medicines, and even with other methods of flea control during peak flea season.

Program prevents fleas by stopping females laying viable eggs. This means no resistance to this method of flea control can be passed on to future generations, a problem with many old-fashioned forms of flea treatment. With the average female flea laying over 2000 eggs, this is one case where prevention really is better than cure.

Program flea control for dogs and cats is not meant to be a quick fix solution. In fact adult fleas are not harmed by this product at all. But, every female flea that does encounter your pet will lay eggs unable to develop into the fleas of the future. Over time monthly use of Program eliminates the flea population in and around your home. However, to deal with an existing volume of adult fleas you will need to use another product in conjunction with Program. Capstar flea tablets provided to eliminate all adult fleas within hours, and in fact are recommended as the sister product to Program flea treatments. You could of course use another product such as shampoos or sprays to destroy the adult fleas whilst Program gets to work eliminating the future flea population.
